Powerful Voices: Reflections on Writing from Black Authors

We have journeyed through the minds of many Black authors and writers.  The quotes by these black authors about writing are powerful reminders of the importance of literature in shaping our lives and society. They speak to the unique struggles and experiences of black writers, and encourage us to be bold and unapologetic in our pursuit of creative expression. The words of Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, and others have reminded us of the power of storytelling, the importance of resilience, and the value of our individual and collective voices. As we reflect on their wisdom and insights, we are inspired to continue writing, to share our stories and perspectives with the world, and to honor the legacies of those who have come before us.

I once wrote, "We all have a story to tell. It's just that some of us are crazy enough to share it with the world, scars, wounds, warts, and all." This emphasizes the importance of listening to diverse voices and experiences. As readers, we have the opportunity to expand our understanding of the world by reading stories that may be different from our own. As writers, we should be encouraged to share our own stories, regardless of how vulnerable or imperfect they may seem. By listening to and valuing the voices of authors who have overcome adversity and shared their personal stories, we can all be inspired to do the same and create a more inclusive literary landscape.

Remember... You are a carrier of words.  You convey messages and meanings that give people life, hope, inspiration, motivation, and assurance. Writers create worlds, people, ideas, ideals, and so much more.  Writers share their stories and those stories move people to act, change, and move.  Writers entertain, enlighten, encourage, and electrify the world.  Writers help people use their imagination so that they can escape to magical places and meet amazing people. You are a WRITER!  You are a minister that gives life, heals souls, changes minds, and rebuilds hearts.
