Writer's Prayer (Philippians 4:13)

Lord,

I pray for guidance and inspiration as I write.  Help me to write what is true, honest, and full of Your love and grace.  Let me writing be a source of inspiration, encouragement, admonishment, enlightenment, motivation to all who read what I write.  Let what I write point them towards You, Your Love, Your Grace, and Your Goodness.

Help me remember Philippians 4:13 in my moments of weakness and fraility.

Remind me of the hope I have in Christ Jesus.

May my words be a blessing to others and glorify YOU!

In Jesus' Name

Amen

Dealing with Setbacks: How to Get Back on Track with Your Goals

Setting goals is an important component of personal development and achievement, but it can be a bumpy journey. Obstacles and setbacks are a common part of the process, and it's crucial to know how to handle them effectively. Here are some recommendations for getting back on track with your goals after a setback:

Accept Your Emotions: When you experience a setback, it's normal to feel a range of emotions, including frustration, disappointment, and even anger. It is crucial to accept and recognize these emotions instead of trying to repress them. This will help you process what happened and move forward.

Reframe the Situation: Instead of viewing setbacks as failures, try to reframe them as opportunities for growth and learning. See them as a chance to identify what went wrong, what you can do differently in the future, and how you can improve.

Assess the Situation: Take a step back and evaluate the situation objectively. What caused the setback? Was it something within your control or outside of it? What can you learn from the experience, and how can you use that knowledge to move forward?

Revisit Your Goals: Take a fresh look at your goals and determine whether they are still appropriate and achievable. Do you need to adjust them in light of the setback? Are they still aligned with your values and priorities?

Create an Action Plan: Based on your assessment, create a specific action plan for getting back on track. Break your goals down into smaller, more manageable steps, and establish a timeline for achieving them.

Seek Support: Do not be afraid to seek assistance from family, friends, or a professional coach or mentor. Discussing your setbacks and receiving support and advice can be very beneficial in getting back on track towards your goals.

Practice Self-Care: Finally, it is critical to practice self-care while working to get back on track with your goals. This may involve activities such as exercise, mindfulness, or spending time in nature. By taking care of yourself, you'll be better able to cope with setbacks and stay motivated to achieve your goals.

Setbacks are a normal part of the goal-setting process, and it is crucial to know how to manage them effectively. By accepting your emotions, reframing the situation, assessing the situation, revisiting your goals, creating an action plan, seeking support, and practicing self-care, you can get back on track towards success. So, don't let setbacks hold you back – use them as opportunities for growth and learning, and continue to strive towards your goals.

One way to boost your motivation and stay on track towards your goals is to reward yourself for your achievements. Here is why rewarding yourself is so important, and how you can do it effectively:

Boosts Motivation: When you reward yourself for achieving your goals, you create a positive feedback loop that boosts your motivation and reinforces good behavior. This makes it more likely that you will continue working towards your objectives and ultimately achieve success.

Increases Satisfaction: Achieving your goals can be a challenging and sometimes stressful process. By rewarding yourself for your achievements, you can increase your overall satisfaction and enjoyment of the process. This can make it easier to stay motivated and committed.

Celebrates Success: Celebrating your successes is an important part of the goal-setting process. By rewarding yourself for achieving your goals, you are acknowledging your hard work and dedication and celebrating your success. This can help you stay positive and motivated towards achieving future goals.

Creates Positive Habits: When you reward yourself for achieving your goals, you create positive habits and reinforce good behavior. This can make it easier to stay on track towards your objectives and make it more likely that you will continue working towards your goals in the future.

To reward yourself effectively for achieving your goals, consider the following tips:

  • Set Specific Targets: When setting your goals, make sure they are specific and measurable. This will make it easier to track your progress and determine when you have achieved your objective.
  • Choose Meaningful Rewards: When choosing your rewards, make sure they are meaningful and aligned with your values. This will make it more likely that you will feel motivated and satisfied by the reward.
  • Vary Your Rewards: Varying your rewards can help keep you motivated and interested in the process. Consider a mix of small, daily rewards and larger, long-term rewards.
  • Celebrate Along the Way: Celebrating your progress along the way can help keep you motivated and committed to achieving your goals. Consider celebrating each milestone and achievement, no matter how small.

How to Stay Accountable and Motivated When Working Towards Your Goals

Setting goals is an essential first step to achieving success, but staying accountable and motivated throughout the process can be challenging. Here are some tips for staying accountable and motivated when working towards your goals:

Set Realistic Targets: When setting your goals, make sure they are realistic and achievable. Setting unattainable goals can be demotivating, and make it difficult to stay accountable. Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps, and celebrate each milestone along the way.

Create a Plan: Once you have set your goals, create a plan for achieving them. Break down your objectives into smaller steps, and create a timeline for completing each one. Having a clear plan can help you stay focused and motivated, and make it easier to track your progress.

Find an Accountability Partner: Having someone to hold you accountable can be a powerful motivator. Find an accountability partner, such as a friend or family member, who can support and encourage you along the way. Check in with them regularly, and share your progress and challenges.

Use Technology: There are many apps and tools available that can help you stay accountable and motivated. Use a goal tracking app, such as Habitica or Strides, to track your progress and receive reminders. Use social media to share your progress and connect with others who are working towards similar goals.

Stay Positive: Maintaining a positive mindset can be challenging when working towards your goals. But staying positive and focusing on your progress can help you stay motivated and accountable. Practice gratitude and celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem.

Hold Yourself Accountable: Ultimately, you are responsible for your own success. Hold yourself accountable by tracking your progress, reflecting on your challenges, and making adjustments as necessary. Stay committed to your goals, and remind yourself of why they're important to you.

Staying accountable and motivated when working towards your goals is essential for achieving success. By setting realistic targets, creating a plan, finding an accountability partner, using technology, staying positive, and holding yourself accountable, you can stay on track towards your objectives, and celebrate your successes along the way. The Importance of Reassessing and Adjusting Your Goals

Setting goals is an essential first step to achieving success, but it is important to remember that goals are not set in stone. As you progress towards your goals, you may find that circumstances change, or that you need to reassess and adjust your objectives. Here is why reassessing and adjusting your goals is so important, and how you can do it effectively:

Circumstances Change: Life is unpredictable, and circumstances can change at any time. A goal that was once relevant and achievable may no longer be feasible due to external factors. By reassessing your goals on a regular basis, you can ensure that you are still working towards objectives that are relevant and achievable.

Learn from Experience: As you work towards your goals, you may learn new things about yourself or your situation that you did not know before. By reassessing your goals, you can take this new information into account and adjust your objectives accordingly. This can help you stay on track and achieve your goals more effectively.

Stay Motivated: Reassessing and adjusting your goals can help you stay motivated and focused on what you want to achieve. By breaking down your goals into smaller milestones, and adjusting them as you go along, you can ensure that you are making progress towards your objectives, and celebrating each success along the way.

Be Flexible: Being flexible is key to achieving success in any area of your life. By reassessing and adjusting your goals, you can be more flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. This can help you stay on track towards your objectives, even when things do not go according to plan.

To reassess and adjust your goals effectively, consider the following steps:

  • Review your goals regularly, and ask yourself whether they are still relevant and achievable.
  • Identify any new information or circumstances that may impact your goals.
  • Adjust your goals as necessary, by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable steps, or changing the timeline or targets.
  • Celebrate each success along the way, and use it as motivation to keep working towards your objectives.

Reassessing and adjusting your goals is an essential part of the goal-setting process. By staying flexible and adaptable, and being willing to adjust your objectives as necessary, you can ensure that you are working towards goals that are relevant, achievable, and motivating. So, take some time to review your goals, adjust them as needed, and keep moving forward towards success!

Overcoming Common Obstacles to Goal Setting and Achievement

Goal setting is a crucial initial step to achieving success, but it is not always easy. Many individuals find it hard to set and accomplish their goals due to various obstacles that can hinder their progress. Here are some of the most common obstacles to goal setting and achievement, and how you can overcome them:

Fear of Failure: Many people are scared to set goals because they fear failure. However, failure is a natural part of the process, and it is vital to learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward. To overcome this fear, try reframing failure as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than a sign of defeat.

Lack of Clarity: Setting vague or unclear goals can make it difficult to achieve them. To overcome this, be specific about what you want to achieve and create a clear plan to get there. Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps, and create a timeline for achieving them.

Procrastination: Putting off tasks can be a major obstacle to goal setting and achievement. To overcome this, try breaking down your goals into smaller tasks and set a schedule for completing them. Create a routine that includes time for working on your goals and stick to it as much as possible.

Lack of Accountability: Many people struggle to achieve their goals because they do not have anyone holding them accountable. To overcome this, consider finding an accountability partner or joining a group of like-minded individuals who can support and encourage you along the way.

Lack of Motivation: Sometimes, it can be difficult to stay motivated when working towards a long-term goal. To overcome this, try breaking your goals down into smaller milestones and celebrate each success along the way. Reward yourself for making progress and remind yourself of why your goals are essential to you.

Goal setting and achievement can be challenging, but it is essential if you want to achieve success in any area of your life. By overcoming common obstacles like fear of failure, lack of clarity, procrastination, lack of accountability, and lack of motivation, you can set and achieve your goals with greater ease and success. So, identify your obstacles, create a plan to overcome them, and keep moving forward towards your goals!

Setting SMART Goals

Setting SMART Goals: How to Ensure You Succeed in Achieving Your Objectives

Setting goals is an essential first step to achieving success in any area of your life. However, not all goals are created equal. In order to ensure that you achieve your objectives, it is important to set SMART goals.

SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. By setting SMART goals, you create a clear roadmap for what you want to achieve, and how you plan to get there. Here is a closer look at each element of SMART goal setting:

Specific: Your goals should be specific and clearly defined. Rather than setting a vague goal like "get in shape," be more specific and say "lose 10 pounds in the next 3 months." This specificity helps you focus on what you want to achieve and makes it easier to create a plan to get there.

Measurable: Your goals should be measurable, so you can track your progress and stay motivated. If your goal is to increase your sales, set a specific target, such as "increase sales by 20% in the next quarter." This will help you track your progress and see how you are doing.

Achievable: Your goals should be challenging but achievable. Do not set goals that are so difficult that they are impossible to achieve. Instead, set goals that are realistic and require some effort, but that are also achievable with the right plan and effort.

Relevant: Your goals should be relevant to your overall objectives and priorities. Make sure your goals align with your values and long-term objectives. This will help you stay motivated and ensure that you are working towards something that matters to you.

Time-bound: Your goals should have a deadline or timeline. This helps you stay focused and motivated, and ensures that you are making progress towards your objectives. Set specific deadlines for when you want to achieve your goals, and break them down into smaller milestones if necessary.

Setting SMART goals is essential if you want to ensure that you achieve your objectives. By making your goals specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, you create a clear roadmap for what you want to achieve and how you plan to get there. So, the next time you set a goal, make sure it is SMART, and you will be on your way to achieving success in no time!

2023: I Will Finish What I Have Started

My word of the year this year (2023) is finish.

I wanted to write for NaNoWriMo last year, but I was not quite ready for it.  I did not decide to do it until October 1.  That was not enough time to get ready to write, specifically because I have not look at the story since 2019.  That is a 3-year gap.  I had no idea where I was in the story and I had no idea on how to jump back in.

I searched for all the items for the story and then saw all of my works in progress.  I was shocked and embarrassed.  I have incomplete 5 works in progress.  I was extremely disappointed in myself.  I was dejected and disillusioned as a writer.

Now mind you, most writers have multiple works in progress at all times, so this is not a strange thing.  But, for me, I still felt somewhat let down because I have so many unfinished stories.

That caused me to stumble in my progress of getting ready for NaNo.

I said to myself, “I want to finish my novels.” Little did I know this silent statement would be the catalyst for my word of the year.

I began to think about my word for this year at the beginning of December.  Someone posted their word of the year on a group I am in and I started to think about my word.  This year was different, I received my word of the year earlier than normal.

During the first week of December, I had seen about four or five posts about word of the year in the group. I said, “I should start thinking about my word for next year.” A voice said, “FINISH!”  I wave that voice off.  I did not think that it applied to my word of the year.

A week later, I said, “I wonder what my word should be for next year.”  Again, a voice said, “FINISH.”  And again, I brushed it off.

I went on my way and the word “finish” kept coming into my spirit.  I kept brushing it off.  The more I thought about it, the more I did not want this word to be my word. This word would require me to be more accountable than my words have in other years.

At one point, I even said, “I don’t want that to be my word!”

Well, as I stated above… FINISH is my word.

Writer's Prayers for 2023

This year, I will be writing prayers for writers for each month of the year.  They will be based on my word of the year: FINISH.

I create Bible Reading Plans, and the verses will come from those.

You can see other Writer's Prayers here.

View some of my Bible Reading Plans here @ my faith journey blog.

This year's Bible Reading Plan is based on my Word of the Year: Finish.

The theme is Finishing the Assignment With Grace, Passion, Persistence, and Resilience.

The theme Bible Verse is: Ecclesiastes 7:8.

To FINISH the assignment, you need to state your VISION and refine your PURPOSE, so that you can create GOALS that will lead to ACCOUNTABLILITY, as you revive your PASSION by being INTENTIONAL in all that you do. You must overcome ADVERSITY with grace with PERSISTENCE through out the journey, fight SELF-DOUBT with RESILIENCE. Remember that FAILURE is not final, nor it is detrimental to you if you learn from it.

Keep your focus on the main objective; to FINISH!

So, be sure to join me for all of the Writer's Prayers this year.
