I discovered using a WORD OF THE YEAR in 2018 when I began my faith journaling journey. Read more about that here.
The people in a group I was in was talking about choosing their WORD OF THE YEAR at the end of 2018. I became intrigued and decided to look into it. I found it to be a useful tool. As I usually do… I tool what the people in the group said, and what I learned in my research and took it and made it my own by creating a system to use the word.
A WORD OF THE YEAR is a word (or sometimes a two-word phrase) that represents your motto/mantra for the year. It is a way for you to be intentional about becoming better in the new year.
My word for 2019 was purpose. (The word was inspired through 2018 being a rough year and I had to keep reminding myself that I had a purpose for all that I was doing. So, I felt that 2019 would be a year that I remembered, redefined, renewed, and reinvigorated my purpose in all areas of my life.)
My word for 2020 was vision. (Oddly enough, I did not even realize that 2020 would be 20/20 vision. It came to me as I was working on my writing project. (Learn more about my writing here.) The word was inspired by Habakkuk 2:2. I had a vision to complete a project, and I wanted to be intentional with that endeavor, so I wanted to remind myself that I had a vision to complete.)
My word for this year (2021) is intentional. It was that time of year again, people in many of the groups I was in was talking about their word of the year. I was unable to even write for personal projects in 2020 once the pandemic hit. I was somewhat hurt by this, but the writing I did in 2020 was spiritual. So, once again, I decided to complete the writing project once again. I was doing something else and I heard the song “Intentional” by Travis Greene begin to play in my head. I brushed it off, but then, the song kept playing in my head over and over for a week. After that, my word was intentional. I want to be intentional with everything I say and do.
Long story… right…
Well, it was in 2020 that many people in the groups I was in was asking… “How can I effectively use my word of the year?”
It was in that moment, that I felt lead to share my process with the groups. So, I did.
Now, I am sharing it with you. There is the manual and a workbook.
